The Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at The Children's Hospital is the primary site in the Rocky Mountain Region for obtaining consultation with board certified experts in esophageal, intestinal, liver, pancreatic and nutritional disorders of children. The 9 full time members of the department are geographically based at the hospital and provide consultative services throughout a network of outreach clinics in the Denver metropolitan area and the Rocky Mountain region. The physicians are nationally recognized experts in all aspects of gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic and nutritional disorders and skilled in the most up-to-date and innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to children.
The Department physicians provide consultation to community physicians for many common gastrointestinal problems of childhood, such as recurrent abdominal pain, chronic diarrhea or vomiting, and constipation, working closely and communicating with primary care providers to provide a timely evaluation and diagnosis and initiate the appropriate treatment plan. Members of the department are also actively involved in a variety of research programs in order to improve the health and care of children with GI and hepatic diseases.

The Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at The Children's Hospital runs the only pediatric endoscopy unit dedicated solely to children in the region, in collaboration with pediatric anesthesiologists and pediatric nurses.
