Day Treatment Program
The Eating Disorder Day Treatment Program is designed for individuals who need increased support and structure in the process of recovery, but are able to maintain progress without 24-hour supervision and support. Most people attend for a minimum of two weeks. The program is available seven days a week and is divided into two sections: full day (7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and partial day (2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.),
Services & Activities
Therapeutic Activities
The Day Treatment Program focuses primarily on developing healthy coping skills in the process of recovery and gaining insight into the factors contributing to the eating disorder symptoms. The program includes daily goal setting groups, groups dealing with issues relating to body image, readiness to change, family and peer relationships, anger management, relaxation and depression. Individual and family therapy and psychiatric assessment continues in all levels of care.
Medical Check-Up
When patients arrive each day, they have a medical check-in with the nurse. Medical problems are closely monitored and addressed by the adolescent medicine team.
Nutrition Therapy
All patients meet with the nutrition team to learn how to follow an appropriate meal plan, to address the distortions about nutrition and health that often dominate the thoughts of the individual with an eating disorder. Patients have meals and snacks in a therapeutic setting with staff support and supervision. There is daily nutrition therapy and opportunities to learn and practice balancing healthy nutrition and exercise. Parents are also involved in nutrition therapy, so they can learn skills to support their child’s nutrition needs through the recovery process.
Physical Activity
The program incorporates healthy leisure skills, appropriate use of exercise and development of alternatives to excessive exercise as a coping skill.
