Hospital Sports Program at The Children's Hospital
The purpose of The Children’s Hospital Sports Program (HSP) is to provide resources and programs for children with physical disabilities that influence their participation in organized recreation activities. Focusing on abilities, the ultimate goal of this program is to promote the development of a skill base that leads to a lifelong healthy leisure awareness and lifestyle.
Though downhill skiing and snowboarding remain HSPs largest organized activity, the program currently offers year-round involvement in leisure pursuits for children with physical disabilities. Summer activities can include golf, fishing, sailing, rafting and tennis. Other opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities are made available to program participants through collaborative relationships established by The Children's Hospital Sports Program and various outside agencies. Between summer programming and winter skiing, nearly 100 children and their families take advantage of this unique program each year.
