Pediatric General Surgery

Jennifer Bruny, MD, with patient.

The Department of Pediatric General Surgery at The Children’s Hospital performs complicated operations that include kidney and liver transplants, as well as more common procedures that include appendectomies, hernia repair, undescended testes and other palpable lesion removals or biopsies. The pediatric surgeons at Children’s also repair congenital deformities of the head, neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis.

Our team, in cooperation with the Department of Oncology, provides surgical care for infants and children with cancer, including surgical resection of tumors of the neck, chest, abdomen and extremities.

The Pediatric General Surgery team includes board certified pediatric surgeons who offer a variety of surgical services to infants, children and teens. Our surgeons work with many departments at Children's to provide the most comprehensive care for children.

Why choose The Children’s Hospital for pediatric surgery?

The surgeons at Children’s are dedicated to pediatric care and often use minimally-invasive surgical techniques to

minimize the pain and discomfort of surgery for children.

Children’s is proud to offer the only dedicated Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in the Rocky Mountain Region, as well as a colorectal and complex pelvic floor disorder program  that is the only one of its kind in the western United States.

The pediatric surgeons at The Children's Hospital participate in important research in several areas, including post-traumatic inflammatory response in children, pediatric hepatobiliary diseases, open loop algorithms for resuscitative care, minimally invasive surgery in children, bariatric surgery for adolescents and other clinical research.

Members of the department have contributed numerous clinical studies in the areas of appendectomies, gastroesophageal reflux, trauma, biliary atresia, kidney transplantation, bariatric surgery and others.
