Healthy Meat Substitutes

Some common vegetarian substitutes include:

  • Tempeh, which originated in Indonesia, is made from cooked soybeans. This product is very high in protein and fiber and easily absorbs flavors from other ingredients.
  • Seitan is made from wheat and has the meatiest consistency of the common vegetarian substitutes.
  • Soy, made from soybeans, is used to create soy milk and soy cheese — common alternatives to dairy products.
