Safety on Wheels

While snow and icicles can make Denver seem like a winter wonderland, parents know accidents can happen anywhere. While you are out and about this winter, remember to be prepared by keeping the items listed below in your car.

What to have

What it should include

Winter storm bag

Blankets, bottled water, sample-size medications for children who need them, rain gear, a flashlight and nonperishable foods like dried fruits and nuts should be packed in case of car trouble.

First-aid kit

If your child is injured away from home, it helps to have rubbing alcohol, bandages, anti-inflammatory medication — like ibuprofen — for children, hydrogen peroxide and instant hot/cold packs.

Emergency contact list

Important phone numbers — such as The Children’s Hospital and your local poison control center — can be critical if your child faces a health emergency.
