Visitation Policies at The Children's Hospital

At The Children's Hospital, our primary concern is the health and safety of our patients, families and staff. The following visitation policies and procedures are in place to help our patients heal as quickly as possible and to prevent the spread of infections.

The procedures have been developed to minimize your wait time and to get you where you are going as quickly as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.

Visitation Restrictions for October 1, 2009 to April 1, 2010 at the main campus and all Network of Care locations

Inpatient Areas (at Main Campus and Network of Care locations):

  • All visitors and parents to inpatient areas will receive a brief health screening before entering the unit. Ill visitors will be asked to leave the hospital.
  • Four (4) visitors, including parents, are allowed in a patient room at one time.
  • Children under 12 years of age (including siblings) are not allowed to visit.
  • Charge nurses may make exceptions for extenuating circumstances.

Outpatient Pavilion and Network of Care Clinics,Therapy Areas, Surgery Centers and Radiology

  • Please do not bring additional friends or family members to these appointments.
  • All visitors will be asked to wash their hands upon arrival.
  • If you are experiencing respiratory/flu-like symptoms (e.g., fever, cold, cough, runny nose, sore throat), you will be asked to wear a mask.
  • Our staff will attempt to separate ill from well patients in the reception area.

Emergency and Urgent Care Centers:

  • Our staff will attempt to separate ill from well patients in the reception area.
  • All visitors will be asked to wash their hands upon arrival.
  • If you are experiencing respiratory/flu-like symptoms (e.g., fever, cold, cough, runny nose, sore throat), you will be asked to wear a mask.

Visitor Access Badging procedures beginning October 5th, 2009

  • Visitors to all inpatient areas, including floors 6-9, all intensive care units, the emergency department and the Gary Pavilion will be screened for infectious diseases and given a visitors badge at the appropriate check-in area.
  • There is no visitor badging in the main lobby. The information desk staff and volunteers are on hand to help direct you to where you need to go.
  • Visitors and patients going to our Outpatient Pavilion will not be screened or badged.
  • Please do not bring additional children or friends to your child's outpatient appointment. If you need child care for a sibling during an appointment, please contact our Creative Play Center which offers on-site child care.

Ways to stay in touch

If you are unable to visit in person, here are some ways to stay in touch with a child or family while they are here:

  • Send a Cheer Card through our website.
  • Send balloons (mylar type only) or other gifts through our gift shop.
  • Send an e-mail or greeting card to the hospital.
  • Call the child and family. Please call The Children’s Hospital main line (720) 777-1234 and ask to be transferred to the child’s room.
